About the game
There are 68 real rallies to reach in 18 countries, from Scarborough and the Isle of Wight to Vespa World Days and EuroLambretta. Every country has its own road, pub, food and music, and each rally has a patch drawn for the game in the spirit of its own badge. The rallies are real; the game is a fan's tribute and not connected with them (disclaimer).
Pick one of the riders, or make your own from a photo. The photo is cut out and pixelated on your phone, and never leaves it.
On a phone the game goes full screen. Add it to your home screen (how) and it opens like an app and plays offline, without signal; the leaderboard catches up next time you are online.
Who's behind it
I'm Miguel, from La Alcarria in Spain and living in Norwich, UK. I'm a scooter enthusiast: Lambrettas and Vespas, rallies, the long ride to get there and the patches sewn on the jacket afterwards. Work doesn't leave me time for as many rallies as I'd like, or even for as much riding, so this game is my way of staying on the road.
Kickstart Your Heart grew out of two small games I made before: Scooter Run Alkarria, my degree project, and Road to Cogolludo, made for our wedding run. This one goes further, to the rallies the scene rides to across Europe and beyond. I make it in my spare time; it's free, with no ads, and it's my way of giving something back to the scene.
By day I'm a Research Software Engineer at the John Innes Centre, and I'm behind RSE España, a community for people who write research software in Spain.
